Tilt and turn windows are the most versatile frame type on the market — a single window that operates two completely different ways. Turn the handle to one position and the window tilts inward at the top for secure trickle ventilation; turn it further and the same window swings fully inward like a door, for easy cleaning and emergency escape access.

Tilt & Turn Windows — common questions
Two main advantages — secure ventilation (the tilt position lets fresh air in without leaving the window open enough for intruders to climb through) and easy cleaning (the full turn position lets you clean the outside of the glass from inside the room, ideal on upper floors).
Yes — modern tilt and turn frames use multi-point locking that engages around the entire perimeter when closed, plus anti-lift and anti-tamper mechanisms. They meet all current UK security standards.
Yes — they're available in any of our window materials including timber, so they can be specified to suit period properties as well as modern apartments. The European-style aesthetic does suit contemporary homes particularly well, however.
When fully open, yes — they swing inward like a door, so you need clear space inside the room (no curtains, blinds or furniture in the way). The tilt position only encroaches a few centimetres at the top, however.
Yes — when fully turned open, they provide a wide unobstructed opening that satisfies UK building regulations for fire-escape windows in habitable rooms, particularly useful on upper floors.
